This Privacy Policy explains how the Storm Range application and website at
stormrange.com — operated by Brimir Clough,
a sole proprietor ("Storm Range", "we", "us", or "our") — collect, use, and share information when you
use our app and related services (the "Service").
1. The short version
Storm Range is a "local-first" application: the shooting data you create — profiles, firearms,
scopes, loads, range/DOPE logs, and similar — is stored on your own device, not on
our servers. The information we hold on our servers is limited to what is needed to provide an
account and a subscription: your phone number (for sign-in), and your subscription status.
2. Information we collect
- Account information. When you sign in, you provide your mobile phone number.
We use it to send you a one-time verification code and to identify your account. We store the
phone number and a record of your subscription tier; we never store your verification codes in
readable form.
- On-device app data. The gear, profiles, ballistic solutions, range data, and
logs you create are stored locally on your device (in the browser's storage or the app's local
database). This data is not transmitted to or stored by us unless you explicitly use a feature
that requires it.
- Subscription & payment information. Subscriptions are processed by our
payment providers (Stripe for web, and the Apple App Store or Google Play for in-app purchases).
We do not collect or store your full payment card details; we receive only your subscription
status and the identifiers needed to manage it.
- Optional voice features. If you enable the optional voice assistant and use
its online mode, the text of your spoken request may be sent to our language-model provider
(Anthropic) solely to interpret the command. The ballistic calculations themselves run on your
device. The voice feature also has a fully offline mode.
- Technical logs. Our servers keep limited operational logs (such as request
timestamps and error information) to operate and secure the Service.
3. SMS / text messaging
We send SMS text messages only for account verification and security (one-time
passcodes). These are transactional messages — we do not send marketing or
promotional text messages.
- Consent. You provide your mobile number directly in the app and tap "Send
code," which is your request and consent to receive a one-time verification code by SMS for that
sign-in. We do not buy, rent, or import phone numbers from third-party lists.
- Message frequency. A message is sent only when you initiate a sign-in
(typically one message per attempt).
- Rates. Message and data rates may apply.
- Opt-out / help. Reply STOP to opt out of further messages, or HELP for help.
Mobile information sharing. No mobile information (including your phone number and
SMS consent/opt-in) will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional
purposes. Sharing with subcontractors that support the Service — such as our SMS delivery provider
— is limited to delivering these messages. Text-messaging originator opt-in data and consent are
not shared with any third parties.
4. How we use information
- To create and secure your account and verify sign-ins.
- To provide, maintain, and improve the Service.
- To process and manage your subscription.
- To respond to support requests and communicate about your account or the Service.
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.
5. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with service providers who
help us operate the Service, and only as needed:
- Twilio — to deliver SMS verification codes.
- Stripe, and the Apple App Store / Google Play — to process subscriptions.
- Anthropic — to interpret optional online voice commands.
- Fly.io — to host the Service.
We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security
of our users and the Service.
6. Data retention
We retain account and subscription information for as long as your account is active and as needed
to provide the Service or comply with legal obligations. Verification codes are short-lived and
single-use. On-device app data remains on your device until you delete it.
7. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information, including hashing
of verification codes and session tokens and encrypted connections. No method of transmission or
storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Your choices and rights
- You can stop receiving SMS messages at any time by replying STOP.
- You can delete your on-device data from within the app.
- You may request access to or deletion of your account information by contacting us.
9. Children's privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal
information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will revise the "Last updated" date above
and, where appropriate, provide additional notice.
